Overview
At English Club Laos Community, our focus is on preparing young Lao people for a brighter future by helping them develop strong English language skills. We believe that English is more than just a language. it is a powerful tool that opens doors to education, employment, personal growth and international opportunities.
Through engaging, student-centered lessons, we aim to build our students’ confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing English. By improving their communication skills, we empower them to pursue higher education, access better career opportunities and actively participate in an increasingly connected world.
Together with our volunteers and local teachers, we are creating lasting opportunities for the next generation of Laos.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities:
- Volunteers will support the English Club Laos teaching team through:
- Supporting students with pronunciation, vocabulary, reading and writing skills
- Preparing creative classroom activities, games and learning materials
- Encouraging students to build confidence in using English
- Sharing cultural knowledge and experiences with students
- Creating a positive and supportive learning atmosphere
- Volunteers do not need to be professional teachers. Our team provides guidance and support to help volunteers feel prepared in the classroom.
Application Requirements
To ensure the safety and well-being of our students and volunteers, all applicants are asked to provide:
English speakers
Able to communicate in English at an intermediate level. Native fluency is not required.
No experience needed
No teaching certification or qualification required. Just bring flexibility and an open mind.
Required documents
Clean criminal record, a current CV, passport copy, emergency contact and travel insurance.
Age 18+
Open to all adults. Under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Arrival
Getting here
Volunteers should arrive at Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ) on either Saturday or Sunday before orientation week begins. A team member will pick you up at the airport, take you to your guesthouse and help you get settled with your host family. You’ll then have the rest of the day to relax and adjust to your new environment.
If you’re traveling to Luang Prabang from Vientiane by land, train, or another method, just let us know ahead of time so we can organize your pick up without any delays.
Orientation Day
Getting here
A relaxed session led by one of our team members helps you settle in, meet everyone and prepare for your placement. During orientation you will:
- Meet our local staff and your fellow volunteers
- Learn about your accommodation, facilities, Wi-Fi and local amenities
- Get practical information on shops, restaurants, ATMs and transport
- Receive an overview of your project, responsibilities and teaching schedule
- Learn about classroom expectations and current community activities
Our team stays available for questions and support throughout your placement.
Typical daily schedule
A weekday, hour by hour
Volunteers usually spend 4–6 hours per day, Monday to Friday, supporting our teachers and students through interactive lessons, conversation practice, games, songs and creative activities. Flexibility matters — schedules can shift depending on classroom needs.

Breakfast is provided daily, while lunch and dinner are included on weekdays during the project. Weekends are a great time to experience the culinary diversity of Luang Prabang. The city
offers a wide range of restaurants serving Lao, Thai, Indian, Chinese and Western cuisines all at affordable prices. A local food market, located just a 3-minute walk from the guesthouse, is famous for its street food and an all you can eat vegetarian buffet for only $2. Restaurants in town are generally open from early morning until late at night.
Free time on the weekend
Volunteer schedules are intentionally designed to be flexible, allowing ample opportunity to experience the rich culture of Laos and the UNESCO-listed city of Luang Prabang. From natural wonders like caves, lagoons and rice fields to a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking and kayaking, there is much to enjoy. Within the city, volunteers can unwind in a relaxed atmosphere, sample local and international dishes and explore historic temples and bustling markets.

Laundry services are widely available throughout Luang Prabang and are conveniently located near our volunteer accommodation. Affordable wash-and-fold services are offered by local businesses, with most laundry returned within 24 hours. Volunteers are responsible for the cost of their personal laundry and our team will be happy to recommend nearby, reliable laundry services upon arrival.
Men: Long pants and an appropriate shirt (collared shirts preferred).
Women: An appropriate T-shirt or blouse and a traditional Lao skirt (sinh). This is because the school is located on temple grounds.
