Overview
Experience the beauty and culture of Luang Prabang while making a meaningful contribution to the local community. This 15-day Summer Volunteer Program combines cultural immersion, sightseeing, outdoor activities and community volunteering. Volunteers will discover the rich traditions of Laos, explore UNESCO World Heritage sites, enjoy the country’s natural beauty and support local students through English education and community development projects.
Program requirements
- Age: 18+ (17 years old with parental consent may be accepted)
- Open-minded, flexible, and respectful of different cultures
- Enjoy working outdoors and participating in community activities
- Good physical health for light outdoor work
- Good English communication skills

Your 15 days in Luang Prabang
Seven days of guided cultural and outdoor experiences, seven days of volunteering, and a farewell on the final morning.
DAY1
Welcome to Luang Prabang & orientation
Our staff welcome you on arrival and transfer you to your accommodation. After check-in you receive a program orientation covering your schedule, volunteer responsibilities, cultural awareness, health and safety, and an introduction to Lao customs. In the evening, a welcome dinner with your fellow volunteers.

DAY2
Mekong River cruise & UNESCO heritage tour
A scenic cruise along the Mekong to the famous Pak Ou Caves, home to thousands of Buddha images. In the afternoon, explore the UNESCO World Heritage town — traditional temples, colonial architecture and local markets.

Sunrise alms giving & Kuang Si Waterfalls
Wake early to witness the Alms Giving Ceremony, one of Luang Prabang's most respected traditions. After the morning market, travel to the spectacular Kuang Si Waterfalls and visit the Bear Rescue Centre.

Cultural heritage & UXO awareness
Visit Heuan Chan Heritage House to learn about traditional Lao architecture and family life, then the UXO Visitor Centre to understand the history of unexploded ordnance in Laos and the country's ongoing clearance efforts.

Bamboo workshop & traditional handicrafts
A hands-on bamboo workshop with local artisans. Learn how bamboo is used in daily Lao life and try making traditional crafts — an insight into sustainable living and local craftsmanship.

Soft trekking & village experience
A gentle trek through countryside, rice fields, forests and local villages. Meet local families and learn about rural life and traditional farming while taking in the landscape around Luang Prabang.

Volunteer project
Community development project
Work alongside local community members on practical improvements — painting classrooms, renovating school facilities, gardening, and small construction and maintenance activities. Your contribution helps improve learning environments for local children.

Ban Chan Pottery Village & Green Jungle Garden
Discover one of Laos' oldest pottery traditions at Ban Chan Pottery Village. Watch local artisans at work and try making your own pottery, then relax at Green Jungle Garden.

Volunteer project
English teaching & cultural exchange
Four rewarding days assisting local Lao teachers in English classes. Volunteers help students improve speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary and confidence through enjoyable classroom activities, games and cultural exchange. Teaching experience is not required — our local teachers provide guidance and all teaching materials.

DAY15
Departure
After breakfast it is time to say goodbye to Luang Prabang. Our staff assist with your departure arrangements and wish you a safe journey home. We hope the friendships, experiences and memories you have made stay with you for many years.

Anyone aged 17–50 who can communicate in English and has a positive attitude is welcome. No teaching experience is required.
The Summer Volunteer Program lasts 15 days (2 weeks).

Affordable wash-and-fold services are offered by local businesses, with most laundry returned within 24 hours. Volunteers are responsible for the cost of their personal laundry and our team will be happy to recommend nearby, reliable laundry services upon arrival.
